Pretty In Pink – Taryn Bias Cut Skirt

Happy August 1st! I’m back with another Designer Stitch pattern test and I’m so in love with my make. Today I’m sharing the Taryn Bias Cut Skirt. This skirt is so simple, yet very classic. The Taryn can definitely become a staple in your closet.

Taryn Bias Skirt Details

Alright, lets get into the details about my Taryn Bias Cut Skirt. Just as the pattern name suggests, this skirt is cut on the bias. What that means is that instead of placing your pattern piece on the grain line, you will place your pattern piece at a 45 degree angle on the bias grain. What does this do for your garment? Cutting your fabric on the bias makes the fabric drape more elegantly against your body and looks very flattering. The garment is not meant to be tight, but will hug your curves in all the right places.

Although this skirt has a simple design, the pattern does have several style options. You are able to make the Taryn short at the 20″ lenghth or as long as 29″ long. The skirt waist can be finished with elastic or you can install an invisible zipper. Based on my body measurements, I cut a size 5 and I finished the waist with a bound waist edge and an invisible zipper. The fabric used is a pink satin fabric from my local fabric store.

I have been wanting a matching set for the longest time and this was the perfect opportunity to make one. For the top I decided to use Simplicity Sewing Pattern S9114 Misses’ Dress, Top & Pants By Mimi G Style. The top is view B. This is a cami style crop top and I made a size 18, but in all honesty, I should have made a 16. I also added 3 inches to the hem to make the top longer. This top comes together super quick and I’ll definitely be making another one when I make the other views in this pattern.

The Taryn Bias Skirt pattern is now on sale and you can pick up your copy HERE. This is a PDF pattern that comes with standard printing options as well as a trimless printing option and a projector compatable option. My favorite printing options are the trimessless option and I am able to select which size I want to print out since the pattern is also tiled. I love the trimless option because that means I don’t have to trim the paper before putting the pattern pieces together. All you have to do is line up the pattern pieces, tape, cut and sew. That’s it!
