Are you guys ready for look #3 from my FASHION SHOW WEEK? Good, because I’m sharing with you Simplicity 8936 paired with a self drafted skirt and jagged edge tulle underskirt. Let’s go!

African Print Fabric/ Ankara – Teal, Purple, Orange “Bullseye Mini,” YARD or WHOLESALE – no longer available, but you can find similar HERE. Matte Tulle fabric for underskirt was purchased at JOANN HERE.
Construction
Top: Based on Marley’s body measurements, I made a size 7. This pattern has a lot of ease and has an elastic shoulder and waist, so I knew it would fit just fine, which it did.
Skirt: To make the skirt, I took her waist measurement and added 1″ and I cut 2 pieces of fabric, one for the front and one for the back. Her waist measurement was 23″ so cut 2 24″ pieces of fabric. The length of each one was 21 with 1″ seam allowance included. I did attach a waist band which was cut 3″ wide and used 1″ wide elastic.
Tulle Underskirt: For the underskirt I used the same measurements listed above, and gathered it and used a zig zag stitch when attaching elastic. Elastic measurement was waist minus 2″. I cut the hem every jagged. I wanted the tulle to peak out of the bottom of the skirt and I feel I achieved the look I was going for.
Head wrap: For the head wrap I used a left over piece of fabric and I cut it 1.5 yards by 22″ and I simply serged all edges and tied it around her head.
Modifications
The only modification I made to the pattern, was not use the shoulder straps included. I didn’t think the straps were necessary since Marley is an older child. If I had made this for a younger child, I would have added the shoulder straps.
