Make Nine 2019

My #MakeNine2019 Picks | Sewing Intentionally

Hi Guys! In an effort to sew intentionally this year, I’ve decided to change up how I selected my #MakeNine2019.  They say that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.  I decided to select sewing categories instead of specific patterns.

Alright, let’s get this party started!  So, I decided to change the way I select my Make Nine 2019 because last year I chose specific patterns and views and that really didn’t workout for me.  The reason being is because, well, I changed my mind throughout the year.  Last year I selected specific patterns and views and when I went to make the pattern, I may have decide to switch things up a bit from the original plan.

This year I plan on sewing more intentionally and want to build my wardrobe with pieces I can wear all the time.  Having said that, you might find a few items have carried over from my 2018 list, which you can read about it here.

1. Jeans – I’m determined to make pants this year which includes making jeans! These carried over from last year.  Simplicity 8516 is a good option.  The Ginger Skinny Jeans from Closet Case Patterns are also very popular.

2. Joggers – Joggers are very much on trend and let’s face it, who can’t use a nice pair of sweatpants in their lives?  Joggers are great because you can dress them up or dress them down.  These too carried over from last year. I purchased the Hudson pants from True Bias, and they are still on my list. I’ve also linked a few other suggestions.  S8698M7873, S8750, S8702

3. Fur Vest/Jacket – This fur vest is also left over from last year.  Faux fur was everywhere last year and I think it will carry over into 2019.  The weather doesn’t really get cold for long periods of time in South Florida, but I would still like one. Simplicity 8219 is a great options and here are a few other suggestions.  S8797, S8741, B6359

4. Blazer – I think every lady should have a good blazer in her wardrobe and I’m looking to add one to mine.  You can change your entire outfit with a nice blazer.  You can take it to the office or dress up some jeans with some nice heels for a night out with the ladies. Here are some other suggestions: S8604, M7876

5. Jacket – I had a jean jacket from the GAP that I wore the hell out of.  I mean, I got my money’s worth.  I wore that thing until I couldn’t get it any more wear out of it.  It had holes everywhere before I finally decided to retire it.  It’s time to replace it and I think S8845 is the perfect replacement.  Here are some other jacket suggestions: S8843S8702M7636

6. Dress – A nice dress is always on the list of garments to make. It is always a good idea to have a great dress to wear for those unexpected outings when you have to look pulled together.  Here are a few other suggestions: M7741, S8014,  M7566

7. Skirt – Skirts are also great wardrobe builders.  They are usually easy sews and are my go to for quick self gratifying projects.  Plus, I always add pockets to all my skirts, even if the pattern doesn’t have them.  I mean, what girl doesn’t want a great skirt with pockets?  I think S8175 fits all my requirements.  Here are a few other suggestions: B6375S8606

8. Chanel Jacket – I think for as long as I’ve been sewing, I’ve wanted to make a Chanel inspired jacket.  There are a few great patterns out there that I could use for this.  I listed S8604 above but I think either M7549, or B6465 would be perfect for this project.

9 Pants – This year will be the year I conquer my fear of making pants! I am declaring it so before the world!  I’ve only made 1 pair of pants in the past 5 years and they were part of a jumper, so I feel like I cheated. I’m terrified of fit issues.  This will  be the year I get over that.  I think S8841 would be a great pattern to get over my fears.  These look simple enough and they have an elastic waist.  Looks like an easy sew –  famous last words.  Here are a few other pants: S884, S8655M7605

So, what do you think of my #MakeNine2019?  I think these are all great options.  Do you plan on joining on the sewing challange?  I’ll be sure to keep you guys up to date through out the year on my progess on this list and share the good, the bad and ugly.

Til next time!

Johanna
