Hey, it’s me. I’m back. I know, it’s been a while since I last blogged, but I’ve been around. Do you follow me on Insta? Well, you should because that’s where I spend most of my time. Any who, I recently made this really cute top and I decided I needed to share it with you guys! Meet the Dina Pattern from Fibre Mood.

The Dina Pattern

Fibre Mood just released their newest sewing magazine a few weeks ago and the Dina Pattern was included in it. You can get your hands on the sewing magazine HERE. The Dina is a very simple dress that is taken to the next level with these gorgeous statement sleeves. Now, if you know me, then you know I love a good sleeve. The sleeve features a pleat that creates the right amount of volume and it’s just perfect! The dress is also designed with a bust dart to make it a little fitted but then flares to an A-line dress. The Dina also has pockets.

Originally, I was going to make the dress version. Well, long story short, I made a boo boo and ended up with the top version instead. I made a size 18 and it was a little to large so I decided to size down and that was still a little too large. I then decided to try the 14 and I accidently cut off the seam allowance and then it was too tight at my hips. That’s when I decided to make the top version because I didn’t want to waste the fabric I had already cut out. I do like the end result, BUT I’ll be making a size 16 when I make the dress version. Oh and this pretty pink fabric is from my friends over at Fabric Mart. I got a while ago at like $3 a yard or something ridiculous like that.

The construction of the top was fairly simple although I did get a little confused with the sleeve binding. I think it was late at night and my brain stopped comprehending the written instructions. lol Well, luckily Fibre Mood has a sew along! I hopped on over on their Instagram and Kate (@timetosew) has an amazing sewalong that is very easy to follow and will help you if you get stuck like I did.

My second favorite part of this pattern is the invisible zipper! I know that zippers can be so intimidating and some people are scared to even attempt installing a zipper. I’ve watched so many videos on zipper installations and there are lots of great ones out there. I’ve used both Brittany J Jones method and Mimi G Style also has some great tutorials on YouTube. I think I have found my favorite method and you can see the instructions below. These are in instructions found in the pattern instructions for the Dina Pattern.

Well, I hope you enjoyed my version of the Dina Pattern and I’ll be sure to share my dress version once I make it. I went out to brunch this past Saturday with my friend Tami (@itssimplytami) and I made sure to wear my top. Tami loved it and we decided to have a mini photo shoot and she took some great shots of me in my top.

Well, until next time folks. I promise not to be MIA for so long. I made so many pretty garments this summer that I did not blog about so I’m thinking I’m going to be doing a Things I Made This Summer That I Did Not Blog About series. What do you think? If you want a keep up with what I’m up to when I’m not blogging, you can find me over on my Instagram at @soveryjo.

Hi there! I’m purchasing the Dina dress pattern and according to bust chart, I would be a size 18. After reading your article, I’m wondering if it will be big. The instructions say to go by bust measurement. Do you mind sharing your measurements?

Hi! Yes, when I made the 18 it was too big. My measurements are 40/36/45. I always make a muslin but you can choose to measure the pattern. Good luck!
