Zero Waste Poncho

DIY Zero Waste Poncho From Bambini Del Mare

Happy first day of Autumn Guys! Fall officially beings today! Today is also the Autumn Equinox. This means that today, the day and night will be 12 hours long. All this means to me is that daylight saving is going to happen soon. Booo. I am looking forward to cooler weather though but I don’t like when it gets dark early. In celebration of the first day of fall Bambini Del Mare is releasing The Zero Waste Poncho pattern that I was lucky enough to help pattern test!

If you are looking for the perfect seasonal transition garment, then look no more! The Zero Waste Poncho is the project for you. This project is also a great palate cleanser if you will. With only a few seams to sew together, you can get this project done in no time. Also, this is the best loosey goosey pattern I’ve ever made. What in the world do I mean? Well, this pattern is not a pattern! lol What I mean is that you are given measurements and instructions on how to sew the garment together, but all of your measurements depend on your fabric size and how you long want it.

Fabric and Construction

I’ve been doing a lot of fabric stash shopping during this quarantine and I’m so glad I had this in my stash. I purchased this Red & Black Buffalo Check Super Snuggle Flannel Fabric from Joann last fall I believe. I’ve linked to it because it’s on sale right now for $4.79 a yard, so go get some. Buffalo plaid just screams fall to me and to make it into a poncho is just the cherry on the top. Someone pass me my pumpkin spice latte please!

Once you decide what version of the poncho you’re going to make, the construction is pretty straight forward. As I said, depending on the width of your fabric, will determine the measurements of your poncho, but all of this is explained in detail in the pattern instructions. My fabric was 44″ wide, so this was the width I used. Also, you can make the Zero Waste Poncho with a bow and you have the option of finishing off your sash however you like. I decided to self line the sash and I made it twice the width of my fabric.

I am so happy I came across this pattern test from BAMBINI DEL MARE. I had the pleasure of meeting (virtually) Serah, who is the pattern designer and she was a pleasure to work with. She’s got several other projects on the horizon before the end of the year, so make sure you keep an eye out for that. Make sure you follow her on Instagram at @bambinidelmare so that you know when the next pattern is being released. Grab your Zero Waste Pattern HERE.

Fall warbdrobe

Right before I was about to walk out the door, I decided that I needed a Ruth Bader Ginsburg in honor of her passing. I made this image using my Silhouette Cameo machine and I used the print and cut method with printable vinyl. Do any of you have a cutting machine? Let me know in the comments if you would like a tutorial on how I made this shirt. I’m also thinking about opening a shop real soon and adding this shirt to it. Would you be interested in that? Let me know.
