#2018MakeNine | A Sewing Challege

Hi Guys! Happy New Year!  Only 16 days in to the new year.  Today I want to share with you my #2018MakeNine.  What is #2018MakeNine? Well, this a sewing challenge that has made it’s rounds on Instagram where you post what you will decide to sew up in 2018.  Seems pretty harmless, right?  I’m very excited for this challenge because it will help me narrow down the clothes that I want to make during the year and help keep me accountable.  I kind of need this in my life because let’s face it, whenever one of the big four pattern companies come out with their new releases, I’m like a kid in a candy store.  My eyes get big and totally gloss over as everyone is posting all of the new patterns and all the things they plan on making.  The fact that the patterns go on sale all the time does not help the situation.  If you’re interested in participating you can check out Lucky Lucille and you can get all the low down on her site. So, here are my #2018MakeNine, in no particular order.

  1. Jeans – I don’t know about you, but it seems like I am always on the hunt for a great fitting pair of jeans.  When Mimi G came out with Simplicity Pattern 8516 Misses’ Mimi G Skinny Jeans I was so excited.  I’ve never made jeans before and I thought I’d be able to tackle this project because all of her patterns come with a sew along video.  I ran out and got the pattern and purchased my denim and all the notions for the project.  Well, I used the denim fabric for something else and I never made my jeans.  I think this pattern would be great to make because it comes in a curvy fit.

2. Shirt Dress – I’ve been wanting to make a shirt dress for quite some time now.  I actually cut out a shirt dress pattern 2 years ago and it has been setting in my UFO pile. (Unfinished Outfits)  I immediately loved this McCalls 7682 pattern when it came out.  I want to make the dress just as is.  I’ve never done buttons before so I’m excited to give it a try.  The high low hem line is also so pretty.  I already have the fabric for it.   I blogged about it here.

3.  Joggers – I’ve been wanting a pair of joggers for what seems like forever.  I saw one of my sewing friends post the Hudson Pants by True Bias on her Instagram account.  She made a pair for herself and a pair for her son and they were both so cute.  I went on over to the True Bias site and I was so lucky because the patterns just happened to be on sale so I got myself a pattern and one for my son.

4.  Party Dress – I haven’t made myself a real pretty party dress so I decided that I needed to add one to my list. I really like McCalls7654 because it has so many different variations.  You can have two different bodices, two different skirts and 3 different sleeves.  I decided that I’m going to do the view in the photo below.

5. Wrap Top – This is another top I had listed on my Pre-Thanksgiving pattern haul post. I’ll be using McCalls M7627  view A  and I plan on making it with the same fabric in the photo.  I picked up the red and white checkered fabric at Walmart for $1 a yard!  The sleeves will be adjusted using That’s Sew Monica’s sleeve adjustment tutorial and you can see it here.  I’m pretty excited about this one because a good dramatic sleeve is all the rave.

6.  Sweat shirt/ Sweat Dress – I love every single view in McCalls 7688.  I love the ruffles on views B and D and the ruching on views E and C.  This pattern is amazing and I hope to be able to make more than one of the views in this pattern.  I’ve got some gray sweatshirt fabric and I also ordered this real pretty baby blue terry cloth fabric from Girl Charlee during their Black Friday sale.  I can’t wait to use it.

7. Great Work Dress – While strolling the ‘Gram’ I saw a sew sister post this dress she made in a gorgeous red fabric.  This is New Look Pattern 6524 view D. I love the simplicity of this dress and the detail of the sleeves is very pretty.  I can totally see myself in this dress very regularly.

8. Faux Fur Vest – Ever since the faux fur craze began I didn’t really know how I felt about it.  As time went on, the trend grew on me because there are so many different variations out there.  The possibilities are endless.  Joann Fabric had a pretty good sale and I managed to pick up some pretty faux fur fabric. I had to get it because it was cheaper to make it then it was to buy it.  (Famous last words. lol)  I’ve had Simplicity 8219 in my stache for a while and now I’ll be able to use it.

9. Bomber Jacket – I’ve been wanting a bomber jacket for a while now and I love Beaute’ J’Adore’s version for McCalls 7636.  This is going to be another Mommy and Me projects because I also would like to make one for my son.  Stay tuned for that!

My goal in participating in the sewing challenge is to keep me accountable and help me keep on track with my sewing projects through out the year.  One of my goals for 2018 is to sew more and learn new sewing techniques.  I’ll be blogging about my makes as I go along to show you all what I’ve made.  Wish me luck!

So, what do you think about my selections? Are you participating in the #2018MakeNine sewing challenge?  If you do, make sure to use the hash tag so that everyone can see what you make!

Happy Sewing,

Johanna

Those are great selections, and are sure to challenge you on some of them. My Make Nine list is a list of things I have been putting off for a few years. I actually have the first one done and up on my blog now. 🙂
