Summertime Fun in Simplicity 8379

So, I decided to jump on the bandwagon and have some summertime fun with Simplicity 8379 too.  This dress has been making its round on Facebook and on Instagram since it was released.

This truly was  ‘Easy-To-Sew’.  There are only 3 pattern pieces to this dress, the front and back in 1 piece, the arm binding and the neckband.  This was the first time I made a knit dress with an arm and neck band.  Another first for me was using stripped fabric.  I have always stayed away from stripped fabric because I was always scared of not being able to match my stripes.  I don’t think I did too bad.

I purchased this awesome knit fabric from the Michael Levine Loft when I was in LA last month.  The Loft is not online, but here is something similar from their online store.  I LOVE the Loft because everything $3.00 a pound! I got some really great pieces of fabric. I’ll share those in another post.  Now on to my review!

Pattern Description: This knit dress has only one main pattern piece making it super easy to sew and perfect for beginners. Sized for everyone—includes cutting lines for sizes XXS to XXL all in one. With easy-to-follow instructions, anyone from beginner to expert can enjoy making a variety of these for the summer. The pull-on dress is sleeveless with a round neckline. Use a knit fabric with a lot of drape to complement the side-draping detail on this dress.

Pattern Sizing: XXS to XXL I made a Large.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes

Were the instructions easy to follow? Very easy.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? There was nothing I did not like about it.  I thought the instructions were straight forward and it came together nicely.  I love the drape of the sides and it is very forgiving.

Fabric Used: I used a knit fabric.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I did add an inch to the length so it wouldn’t be too short.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes, I would definitely sew this again.  I think I’m going to make my next one a medium.

Conclusion: This is a great summer dress that would be great for a beginner to tackle.  The instructions are clear and are easy to follow.

Have you made this dress yet?  What do you think about mine? I would love to know.  Leave me a comment below!
