Pre-Thanksgiving Pattern Haul

First of all, Happy Thanksgiving! (if you celebrate)  I hope you had a great time with your family and friends during the holiday.  Recently, JoAnn had an amazing pattern sale and I might have gone a little nuts. Hobby Lobby also has a sale that I took advantage of.  I’m lucky that I live close enough to several Joann’s and Hobby Lobby’s and I might have paid them all a visit in search of some goodies.  Simplicity, McCall’s and I think Vogue were all on sale. There were also some great fabric sales as well. I want to share with you what I picked up on my travels.

Pattern Haul

I did mention that I MIGHT have gone a little over board?  Just a tad.  These are my favorite latest patterns from McCall’s and Simplicity.

On the short list of makes

OK, so these are on my short list to make. Although I had no interest in a bodysuit, I picked up Simplicity 8513 after I saw Brittany from www.brittanyjjones.com make all of the views of this bodysuit.  She did an amazing job and just made me want to make one too!  She is so amazing that she did sewalongs for each view and you can find it here. Next we have McCall’s 7682,  I’m currently having  a plaid love affair and this dress goes right in line with that. View C is everything to me.  Next we have McCall’s 7688.  I can seriously see myself in all of the views.  Who doesn’t want a sweatshirt with ruffles and a sweatshirt dress?! Next we have Simplicity 8512.  Ruffles and a cold shoulder?  Need I say more?  Then we have McCall’s M7687 because sleeves. Nuff said.  Last but not least is D0851 which is the display number for Simplicity 8517. This poncho is perfect for the South Florida winter.

Red plaid fabric for M7682

I was in Hobby Lobby looking for the patterns I couldn’t find at JoAnn and look what I found.  I’ve never really purchased fabric there before, but I saw this plaid and I had to have it.  It was even on sale!  I’ve been sleeping on Hobby Lobby.  Not anymore!

Patterns for Sew It Academy Course #16 and #18.

I belong to the Mimi G Style Sew It Academy and McCall’s 7135 is the pattern we will be using for Course #16 Three Fall Pieces. These three pieces make perfect office attire which I am always in need of.  Simplicity 8469 is the pattern we will use in Course #18 The Coat.  I think I might go with view D because it’s a jacket instead of a coat. Do you want to learn how to sew or improve your sewing skills?  Then I suggest you sign up for the Sew It Academy.  Each class builds on the previous class and you’ll be sewing in no time.  Although I’ve been sewing for 3 years now, I learn something new in each course.

Holiday party dress patterns

The holidays are officially here and I think any one of these dresses would be perfect for any holiday party.  On my ever growing list is Simplicity 8511 view B and D.  I will also be adding McCall’s 7684 view B in green, just like on the pattern cover.  View C is also simple and elegant and it looks like an easy sew.  I really love the mix and match element of McCall’s 7683.  You can really make this dress all your own.  McCall’s 7685 is a real looker and I’ve even seen it in a few fashion magazines.  It’s very on trend this season.

Red and Black Plain with S8517

While at JoAnn I picked up this Plaid Brush Cotton fabric in red and black.   I didn’t really know what I was going to make with it, I just knew I liked it and had to have it.  It was on sale for 60% off, so how could I not buy it?  I may or may not use it for this poncho.  I also purchased a gray fleece which is not pictured.  It is the same shade as the one on the pattern cover. I’ve got some decisions to make.

Last, but certainly not least, are these beauties.  I picked up these two fabrics at Walmart.  They were both marked down to $2 a yard! When the lady scanned the sticker for the red and white one, it was $1 a yard.  I was pretty proud of my find.  For McCall’s 7627, I plan on making view A.  I will be modifying the sleeve using a tutorial by That’s Sew Monica.  You can find it here.  You’re welcome.  I think McCall’s 7687 would like great in either one of these two prints. Lastly, I liked Simplicity 8335 because of the sleeves and I love a flowy top.  I mean, who doesn’t?  I’ll be using the black and white fabric just like the pattern cover. I already have the pattern and fabric all cut out.

Well I hope you enjoyed reading about my Pre-Thanksgiving Pattern Haul and my slight obsession with plaid and checkered fabric.  Did you make any awesome sale finds during the holiday?  Let me know in the comments below.
