Frida – The Pattern Test That Almost Never Happened

Hi!  I know it’s been a while.  Sorry for being MIA. For the past month life in general has been a little crazy to say the least.    Today I want to share with you my version of the Frida pattern by Designer Stitch.  Not sure if you’ve noticed or not, but I love testing for Ann from Designer Stitch.  Her patterns are always on trend and I like that she always has a vision of how she wants her patterns made and provides inspiration on how to create it.

So, I almost didn’t do the pattern test after having accepted doing it because of Irma.  I live in South Florida and she was scheduled to hit us dead on.  I reached out to Ann and told her that if we lost power, I would not be able to participate.  Silly me was thinking about the possibility of losing power as opposed to what a category 5 hurricane would so do to us.  She says, “You have a whole two weeks to complete it.”  I said OK, I will try.

Well, Irma decided to go west and Broward County was mainly saved.  There were loads of downed trees and many lost power for days.  We were very lucky to not have lost power, but we did sustain some damage.

At one point, Hurricane Irma was the strongest hurricane the National Hurricane Center has ever recorded in the Atlantic outside of the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico; it was moving as a Category 5 storm. Irma hit the Florida Keys as a Category 4 hurricane and later the mainland as a Category 3.

Well, once life got back to some sort of normalcy, I got to sewing up my Frida.  You have the option of making a tunic, top or dress and any version you make is flattering for any body type.

I chose to make the top version using this very pretty black lace fabric I purchased at the Michael Levine Loft during this past summer.  When I purchased the fabric I had no idea what I would be making with it, but I just knew I had to have it.  I thought it was perfect for this pattern.  The pattern has a choice of 4 sleeve options and  I chose the make the regular sleeve.

I think for my next Frida I’m going to make the tunic version and add the bottom ruffle.

The Frida was just released by Designer Stitch and is on sale now.  You can purchase it by going here.  By clicking on the link you can also see how all the other testers decided to make their Fridas.  Glad to be in such amazing company.

Let me know what you think of my Frida in the comments below.

So cute. Your blog came up through a Bloglovin’ e-mail. I’m a quilter so I don’t look at too many garment sewing blogs. But I am a + size girl and your top was so cute and so very flattering. I’m intimidated by garment sewing for myself….lack the skillz for good sizing. Congrats on your lovely top and your talents.

Hi Adriene! Thanks so much for stopping by. That’s so cool that you found me through Bloglovin’. This top is definitely very flattering piece. Hides all the right things. You should give garment sewing a try. If you can quilt then you can sew! Start with a simple top. Nothing with too many seams. You can try a free tutorial. Try Youtube. You can do it!
